2021 Thunder Reading Challenge

We had three Thunder Reading Challenges from July 2021, through March 2022. More than 1.3 million minutes were read by 2,900 students.

Teacher of the Game

In partnership with the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder, 569 teachers have been honored since 2008, with 41 in the spotlight through the 2021-22 season.

Thunder Book Bus

In 2021 we introduced the new and improved Thunder Book Bus, complete with player memorabilia, handicap accessibility and the ability to travel far and wide across the state changing the lives of students one book at a time!
4,663 books distributed through 64 visits from Oct. 1, 2021, to May 18, 2022.
As of May, 2022, we’ve given away more than 188,000 books, through nearly 2,400 visits since inception.

Thunder Reading Timeouts

Nine virtual reading timeouts were held with Thunder players in 2021.

Thunder Regional Spelling Bee

AF sponsors the Thunder Regional Spelling Bee, furthering our support of the education industry and the future of our students.

124 schools participated in the 2021-2022 bee.
56 communities were represented.
25 students attended the regional spelling bee and one advanced to the National Spelling Bee in Washington DC in June.

Working with the Oklahoma City Thunder, we provide an exclusive ticket offer to educators across Oklahoma.

KMGL Teacher of the Month

Eight teachers were honored during the 2021-22 school year, each receiving recognition on the radio broadcast and $250.

STEM Teachers Join AF

AF hires STEM teachers over the summer to provide real-world experience they can take back to their students. Teachers earn a corporate IT salary while at AF and a stipend for classroom supplies.

29 teachers have participated since program inception in 2019.

John Rex Scholarship Keeps Giving

Colleagues’ children in undergraduate programs can apply for a $2,000 annual scholarship, with the potential up to $8,000. Three students receive the scholarship each year, one being designated to go to a minority student.
31 scholarships have been given since inception in 2007.
